Dental Professional Liability Claims: Avoiding the Pitfalls of Practice!

Dr. Fred Magaziner is an experienced dentist having provided dental services over a wide spectrum of the profession.  He has been involved in many aspects of organized dentistry, especially in the areas of public informational and educational programs related to dentistry.

Christine Wisnom, RN, BSN is a Nurse Educator for the AIDS Education and Training Center at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. She is an Infection Control consultant for both the Maryland State Board of Examiners and the DC Board.

What are the common errors that Dentists are committing today that are resulting in charges of dental malpractice?  Experts from the ADA’s Counsel on Members Insurance and Retirement Programs state “problems with record-keeping and communication are among the top reasons why dental malpractice claims are paid.”  Understanding how to avoid these and numerous other problems will be outlined in this program as well as a blueprint for evaluating an adverse event, root cause analysis and action plan to prevent medical errors and resultant claims.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be better able to:

  • Comprehend the common types of dental errors and learn how to avoid them

  • Understand root cause analysis, sentinel events and action plans

  • Integrate the recommendations for obtaining complete informed consent into practice

  • Improve communications with patients to avoid malpractice pitfalls

  • Increase diagnostic documentation in the patient’s record to prevent litigation

Registration / Fee

The seminar fee is $40 PER PERSON and includes a light dinner. The price for the same person taking additional seminars is $20 per additional seminar. Due to commitments for facilities, catering and course materials, seminar fees are non-refundable in the event that you are unable to attend. If a seminar is cancelled your payment will be refunded. Registration is permitted the day of the seminar on a space-available basis.

Premium Discount

Maryland or Washington, D.C. Dentists attending any one of these 2008 programs will satisfy their annual dental risk management seminar attendance requirement, and get up to 16% credit on their next professional liability renewal policy.  If you choose not to attend one of these annual seminars your risk management credit will be reduced by 8% on your next policy renewal.

Note: You must attend the entire session in order to receive your premium discount.

Continuing Dental Education Credits

Professionals Advocate Insurance Company is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. The formal continuing education programs of this program provider are accepted by AGD for Fellowship/Mastership credit. The current term of acceptance extends from 05/2008 to 06/2012. Participants will earn 2.0 credits for each dental risk management educational program attended.

Program Schedule

Registration and a light dinner begin at 5:30 p.m., with the program starting promptly at 6:00 p.m. The program ends at 8:00 p.m. If you have special dietary needs (Vegetarian, Kosher, etc.), please note this information on your mail-in registration form.
