Communicating Unanticipated Outcomes to Patients
Presented by Physicians from across the state
Until very
recently, little guidance has been given to health care providers
regarding how or when to disclose unanticipated outcomes to patients.
Historically, Physicians have been reticent to disclose because of the
fear of litigation, embarrassment or lack of knowledge regarding the
actual process of disclosure. This new program will present an overview
of the disclosure process and the steps necessary in preparation for and
when disclosing unanticipated outcomes. It does not offer a
cookie-cutter approach, but focuses on disclosure that seeks to maintain
the Doctor-Patient relationship.
